I grew up going to Indy Car races at the Mile and my father, Landy Scott, drove his Studebaker powered #17 "Welch Special" at the Mile in the 1940's and 50's. Please save this historic track for generations to come. The loss of Ascot Speedway in So Cal was a great loss, but it wouldn't compare to the losing the Great Milwaukee Mile.

I've been going to races at the "Mile" since 1948,and have seen the mismanagment of this great facility by government selected promoters. We now have great people running things, so lets have the goverment screw it up again. - Remember I vote and politicians can be replaced.

The history of auto racing at The Mile is near legendary. To not continue to keep the track up and running for another 100+ years is just plain stupid! For Wisconsin and Milwaukee to be involved in Large scale racing on a national and international leval is great for fans, the state, local community, and the economy. Keep a good thing going for generations to come.

Have you (state fair executives) finally figured out that you have done a HORRIBLE job of running the track? Now that it has been run into the ground... again, maybe... Just Maybe it's a good idea to let a REAL race team owner take control of the track so the track will finally make money. Best of all, it will bring much needed money back into West Allis... If Road America can make money, how the heck can't you figure it out? Smaller tracks are thriving much better than the mile... Unbelievable. Maybe MILWAUKEE should think about spending that money allocated for the street cars on the mile instead??? Every city knows those street cars ALWAYS lose money. Use it wisely here & you'll get a return in taxes.... Duh... Win win for everybody then.

I was very upset when I heard that NASCAR was no longer at the Milwaukee Mile!!! I want to be able to bring my son to these races now that he is old enough and start a new family yearly trip but that has been ruined for us!! :( Someone had better do something to fix this. Not only my family but several others. Also think of all the lost revenue for this state!! someone needs to get their head out of their butt!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot believe this is happening again. It just makes me sick.Who are these idiots on the state fair park board.Nascar will never come here again folks if they have to deal with those imbiciles.Thats a fact people.John Menard wanted control of track with other partners and the IDIOTS on that board said no to his proposal.Menard wrote a very strongly worded letter basiclly saying the samething I am saying. It is sad.My sister was showing me pictures the other day of me and my mother in turn four by the pit entrance. It had to be in the sixties because I am so young I can't remember it.Iam 48 now and have seen the greatest drivers in the world compete. The State fair board needs to sell or give that track to Menard or sombody with a racing background to run that track. Then maybe they can make amends with Nascar maybe.I would like to say THANK YOU to the Andretti's for bringing Indy cars here and ARCA.Now its up to us as race fans to fill the stands.Actions speak volumes.Cities and States building tracks and facilities and Wisconsin wants to get rid of the oldest track in theU.S.A.Where are your brains? I could go on and on I love that place

Growing up in Wauwatosa, my dad and I used to attend races all the time. I have seen state fair go through many transitions, physically and financially and in the end it has alway survived. This park and its track are at a vary critical stage of their existence. There are many that flat-out don't care what happens and would prefer the idea of redevelopement. We all have seen how well that goes....look a half mile east, that went well didn't it?!! The State of Wisconsin is truly blessed with a tremendous sense of racing heritage. At one time there were more drivers coming out of Wisconsin than any other state. This track needs to gather state wide and even national attention in support of its future. There needs to be a political agenda pushed through to Madison to secure funding from both the public and private sector. However, with that said, it can't go the same route taken by the last ownership that bled it dry. As a fan of the Milwaukee Mile what can we do? Write local and state represenatives and demand action to keep the "Mile" open.

NASCAR is really shooting themselves in the foot here. Because I hear there were expansion planes for backstrech grandstands.. if it was true before NASCAR pulled out they could have carried out these plans and NASCAR could have doubbled maybe even trippled their revenue. My Dad took to my first race back in the early 50's when the track was still dirt. Drivers then were the likes of Myron Fohr and Marshal Teague. When I heard that it was to be paved I cried because I loved the cars careening through the turns sideways, the dust that turned us black and the thrill of racing that I thought would be lost with pavement. Of course I was wrong. I lived for summers spent on the south turn (#1) bleachers, sneaking in the park via the railroad tracks during Fair Week, the smells, the sounds and the excitement of the Rex Mayes Classic 100, the Tony Bettenhausen Memorial 250...I even miss Wednesday night races cheering Miles Melius, Etchie Biertzer and Kenny Tlougan on the 1/4 dirt track that is now the pit lane. From the late 50's until I went into the USAF in 1966, I never missed a single race of any type on the mile track...Stock cars, Big Cars (Indy-type cars used to be called that) and even the midgets. Please preserve the greatest racetrack in North America.

Since moving out here to the midwest I have enjoyed many races at the Mile...made many friends from all over the region. Spending a full day infield, sharing stories, catching up on the happenings since we all last attended a race there. Really miss that we can't set up like we used to and being right in the thick of it once the races started. But am so happy to see them slowly return, just hope the organizers of the races allow those who want to set up for a long, fun day infield that we used to have.

My dad used to take me to the mile as a kid to watch the races more than 50 years ago. I had season tickets for many years watching the ASA cars run with guys like Alan Kulwickie, Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace, etc. all of which eventually made it big in NASCAR. It's a great place to watch a race at and is a shame that the economy hurt attendance so much that one could not profitably promote a successful racing program. Give the economy a little more time to recover and give it a go again. I miss the racing there. Keith Malek

I share memories of the Rex Mays 250 the weekend after the Indy 500. It was the place to be, and still should be. Made racing fans out of kids like me. Thanks to the Andretti family for bringing it back this year, just like Road America in 2007 when CART was broke. Wish I could have 2 minutes with Mario, I'd tell him this:
Just buy it. Get the Fair Board and the local govenment out of the way.
Needs local radio and TV promo. Has been almost extinct for years.
Big issue- Honey Creek fixes. Just do it.
I'll do your radio ads for free. I am a great voice, and have a plan using history and empathy

Don't let the Milwaukee Mile be a victim of a questionably run fair park....We don't need more food/knick knack stands. Get an autosports enthusiast to invest in the track/buy it, build some garages, advertise the snot out of the track, attract some big races, bring the Nationwide series and truck series back, and this track will flourish. I would even go to the extreme and say buy out the block on the backstretch if profitable and build stands all the way around the track. Not sure about where the extra parking would go though.

I live in the Lake Geneva area and watched that track closed. (ROSS KENSETH raced there on the weekends in his beginning career)
I work in the Milwaukee(in the automotive industry), and I am watching this track being pushed asside.
I am an AVID race fan on both the Open wheel and Stock car as well as Moto.
There are way too many smaller tracks being closed, that are supported by local people, all in the name of the almighty dollar.
To quote Pete Pistone we all need to be "staning up" about this and get something done. Not just for the INDY series, but NASCAR as well.

Been supporting the track since the '60's. State Fair week used to feature two, three or even four stock car races. Almost lived there in August. NASCAR should support its roots. They take the Nationwide to Elkhart Lake for a road course race; what's the matter with the mile?
I have been going to the mile for many many years. From the time when the REAL ASA with stars like Bobby Dotter, Butch Miller, and Mike Eddy made its way through there, to the start of the nascar era at the mile. I love and appreciate the mile and its heritage. I grew up 3 blocks away from the track in the 80s and my father and I rarely missed a race. I sincerely hope that we can continue to enjoy our memories and more memories to come at The Mile. And not to mention I WANT TO SEE NASCAR BACK AT THE MILWAUKEE MILE!!!!!

I started going to the Milwaukee Mile when it was the State Fair Track. I used to go on Thursday evening to watch the stock cars on a small track in front of the grandstans. And I beleive it was in the late 40s when stock cars ran and Kaiser Fraseer was the choice. But a local friend of ours entered a new Caddy. And his friend drove it in front all day with an unlit cigar in his mouth!!! He won the race BUT the next Day that stated the a local driver from Racine won it!!!
They did not want a driver who drove racing cars and midgets in the 20s to get the win!!! The last time I went I forgot to wear ear plugs and I was deaf for awhile. I still love racing and my favorite stock card drive is Matt Kenseth and second favorite is That bad boy Kryle Busch.

I have attended races at The Mile since 1965 and have seen it go through many seasons of racing. It was great the have the then "Busch" and Trucks come to The Mile. I have great memories of Fair Week races where there were two or three races a week - a gearhead's dream! What a terrible and foolish thing it would be to close the Mile, since major NASCAR teams have regularly chosen the Mile for a great place to practice. As well, open wheel Indy car drivers have great praise for the Mile. It's time to end unscrupulous promoters strangle hold on the Mile and return it to the fans!
