I grew up in West Allis to the sound of racing. My heros were on the Mile. The Iconic Mile Moment is Sunday morning when the neighborhood church bells ring followed by that other beautiful sound...racing engine starts!
Sometimes we have a lack of imagination in our town. We could have a vintage race car museum at the Mile that would be a year around attraction. Unlike many racing museums, it would have "pride of place" because it belongs there. Imagine families coming to our town to see two authentic museums for race cars and motorcycles. We could have a special day each year where we exercise vehicles from both on Amercia's oldest running track. To see and hear that would be nothing less than living history.
I'll volunteer some time and effort toward this. Who else is in?

I started going to CART races 30 years ago at "The Mile" with my Grandfather. Sad to see that it has lost the Indy Race. My family has made it an annual event and I was hoping to continue the tradition with my kids. It is hard to understand how Indycar can't somehow retain some history.

MY DAD TOOK ME TO MY FIRST RACE WHEN I WAS TWO YEARS OLD. THAT WAS BACK IN 1952. THE MEMORIES ARE STILL IN MY MIND AND I HOPE THEY WILL CONTINUE FOR YEARS TO COME. THE MILWAUKEE MILE WILL ALWAYS BE MY FAVORITE TRACK. ALL OF THE BEST DRIVERS PAST AND PRESENT LOVE THIS TRACK FOR ITS CHARACTER AND COMPETITION. FATHERS AND SONS LIKE THE BETTENHAUSENS, ANDRETTIS, UNSERS, AND OTHERS LOVE THIS TRACK. ALSO LETS NOT FORGET GREAT DRIVERS LIKE REX MAYS, CHUCK STEVENSON, JIM HURTIBISE, EDDIE SACHS, AJ FOYT PARNELLI JONES, JOE LEONARD, GORDON JOHKCOCK, MIKE MOSELEY AND ALL THE GREAT NAMES OF RACING. I PRAY THAT SOMEONE COMES FORWARD WITH A SOLUTION TO BRING BACK GREAT RACING MEMORIES FOR FAMILIES AND FANS AT 'THE MILWAUKEE MILE' LIKE IT DID FOR MY FAMILY AND ALL THE LOYAL RACING FANS OF "THE GREAT MILWAUKEE MILE". NOW LET'S GO RACING. AMEN.

My great grandfather passed away when I was in high school. He wasn't all there during my childhood but the one subject he never forgot was his Race/Indy cars. He would tell me wild stories of testing out the cars by his garage on the Fox Point/Glendale border. I could see a man almost become giddy and childlike telling me how he would test drive them up and down Port Washington road when it was still just a dirt road surrounded mostly by farms. He is also a survivor of a very bad crash at the mile. To this day I have no idea how a man who had such a enormous part of his skull crushed lived. I have so many photos and heard so many stories. I think my heart would break if I can't show the mile to my little girl. There is so little preserved for the future as it is. It's important, it's history, it's my family. It was once Bill Schoof's playground. Please help save the Milwaukee Mile.

So very sad that the Indy cars will no longer run at the Mile. It is highly unlikely it will ever return now. Indycar's schism & the continual jerking around of the date killed it. Michael Andretti tried really hard for three years, but it was clear that the effort was significantly less in 2015. A beautiful track that will slowly waste away with a nostalgia events. I think we may see an end to Indycar all together in the next 20 years, as the Speedway continues to mismanage the series.

The recently published, in time for IndyFest 2015, The Milwaukee Mile was written to tell the Track's long and historic story. I wanted people to understand why those who are passionate about it - want the track saved. From the days of Harness racing up through today, it's jam packed with drivers, track changes, everything that contributed to the great memories so many generations have tucked away. To "Save the Mile" is more than a slogan, it's a feeling, an emotion - we can't let it slip away.

It would be very out of order for the Milwaukee Mile to have to bite the dust. A track with endless history, it's not just another oval. It's the oldest auto racing track in the United States of America, and a unique one as well. The closing of this venue would remove a significant part of American history, and that is certainly not something that needs to be done. If the decision is made to close the race track, I can guarantee that the people in charge of the decision will regret doing so in the future.

Let's keep racing (Indy Cars) at the Milwaukee Mile. Milwaukee needs this. The world gets to see the race, track, and Milwaukee as a sports entertainment venue. They are kidding right? Grew up around the Mile in West Allis since childhood, now live in southern Cal. That mile itself should be a historical landmark for Milwaukee giving its long history.
That track has got to be one of the oldest racing venue's in the world. Many fond memories of Rodger Ward, AJ Foyt, Mario etc etc. and lets not to mention the local modified celebrities Miles Milieus, Fasbender, Burtzer pardon the bad spelling of the names.
Respectfully,

Aside from the Indianapolis 500, this is the race I always look forward to. In terms of history and prestige in open wheel racing it is probably second only to the IMS. It is a racing institution. It is a right of passage for the USA's and the world's greatest drivers. I agree that the track needs to be sold to someone who understands this or management that understands this and knows how to market the race needs to be put in place. It should not be developed into just another set of condos, strip malls, or cheap suburban housing. There is enough of that already. There is only 1 of the oldest continually used race tracks in the world and that's the Mile. Honestly, it should be designated a historical landmark. It will be a sad chapter in racing history if the Milwaukee Mile is destroyed.

In all fairness, guys, this is not the forum to take cheap shots at the Fair board. I have seen great success with other county owned fairgrounds speedways, when the fair board simply leases the operation to an outside party. I don't know how much consideration this has been given, Obviously Mr. Andretti has taken a shot at the Mile in some fashion to keep Indy cars coming, but who can jump into this role other than a Menard, Penske, Andretti...?
He's out there, so please Fair Board, hold on until we find him. The tradition, the history, the ability to utilize this awesome facility is something we don't want to lose. To a kid from Wisconsin (the Midwest) making laps at Milwaukee is as close as we may get to Indy or Daytona. Sure was the highlight of my racing career.
