The deal makes Coors Light the official beer sponsor of this summer’s Milwaukee 225 IndyCar race at The Mile. In addition to signage and hospitality, the sponsorship also establishes Coors Light as the title sponsor of the race’s pole qualifying day.

“We have a long history of supporting great racing at the Milwaukee Mile and look forward to an exciting race this summer,” said Jim Wright, MillerCoors general manager-sales for Wisconsin. “Coors Light, The World’s Most Refreshing Beer, is the perfect complement to an afternoon spent enjoying hot racing action on the track. And thanks to our outstanding partners at Beer Capitol Distributing, we’ll be able to ensure race fans have that ideal experience at the track.”

BREAKING NEWS - IZOD IndyCar Series Returning to Milwaukee?

The IZOD IndyCar Series has scheduled a press conference for 11:00am on Friday, September 10th at the Milwaukee Mile.  The press conference will be used to announce the 2011 IndyCar Series schedule.  It has been widely reported that IndyCar Series CEO Randy Bernard wanted the series to return to the Milwaukee Mile in 2011.  With the 2011 schedule being announced at the Milwaukee Mile, one can only assume that the the Milwaukee Mile will be part of it.

IRL chief takes turn with Mile

Bernard says small support from state crucial for plan to work

Indy Racing League CEO Randy Bernard believes he and two partners can turn about $400,000 from the State of Wisconsin into a tourist attraction that would provide a return on the investment for years to come.

Bernard, who took over as head of the IndyCar Series sanctioning body last winter, was in Milwaukee last week to pitch his ideas for his series to come back to the Milwaukee Mile.

The track fell off the IRL and NASCAR schedules after promoter Wisconsin Motorsports defaulted last year on millions of dollars in payments due to both of them as well as landlord State Fair Park and other creditors.

Bernard met with Fair officials Thursday to share his ideas.

"We'd try to bring in ancillary events around it with some strong entertainment value to them," Bernard told the Journal Sentinel. "My goal would be to make it not just a city or state event but to bring in tourists."

That the IRL would even consider coming back to the Mile after going unpaid last time is a sign of the league's commitment to the proposed event, Bernard said.

"That track's sitting there not doing anything right now," he said.
