Racing to Return to Milwaukee Mile in 2019

2019 returnAfter a five year hiatus, Super Late Model racing will return to ‘America’s Legendary Oval’, marking the first major event at The Milwaukee Mile since a 2015 IndyCar Series event. The ARCA Midwest Tour Super Late Models will be joined by other regional touring groups for a June 16, 2019 Father’s Day afternoon special event on the famed Wisconsin State Fair Park Speedway.

“It is our continued initiative to bring racing back to the historic Milwaukee Mile,” stated Kathleen O’Leary, CEO at the Wisconsin State Fair Park. “We are excited to host this race on Father’s Day in 2019.”

The headlining event will be a 75-mile race for the ‘Stars and Cars’ of the ARCA Midwest Tour, a series which draws some of the best short track Late Model racers in the country.

Future of ARCA Fest at Milwaukee Mile in Question

After of a disappointing drop in attendance over the past two years, the future of ARCA Fest and the Howie Lettow Memorial 150 at the Milwaukee Mile is in serious jeopardy.

Dave Kallmann of the Journal Sentinel reported this morning that ARCA Midwest Tour vice president Steve Einhaus says he's not sure of the future of the Howie Lettow Memorial race.

Series officials will meet shortly to discuss the future of the event with sponsors and Cheryl Lettow, the widow of the longtime crew chief and racing mentor after whom the race was named.  Moving it away from the Mile is one option, as is moving it back to a Tuesday.

Steve Einhaus - ARCA Midwest Tour VP:

"We’re going to do some evaluating. We’re going to sit down with Cheryl Lettow (widow of Howie Lettow), and we’re going to sit down with the sponsors here the next few weeks and decide what the future holds. So hopefully we’ll get something figured out. The sponsor and Cheryl want to see it moved to a smaller venue. So we’ve got some talking to do to figure out what we’re going to do.

The cost to rent that racetrack (Milwaukee Mile) and to man it, just the expense of the maintenance and getting it ready, it’s just astronomical. We just have to decide what the plan is. We need a more significant corporate backing to pull it off. It’s obvious it needs to be on a Tuesday, and it’s obvious we need to have some guests to make it successful. So I guess we’ll see what happens."
