Sammy Smith Wins the ARCA Menards Series Sprecher 150

There was a point Sunday during the Sprecher 150 at the Milwaukee Mile when Sammy Smith did not have the dominant car. Taylor Gray took the lead from Smith near the halfway point of the event and led through the second of two scheduled race breaks.

That time, though, was short-lived. Smith regained the lead on the ensuing restart and proceeded to leave no doubt he was the driver to beat Sunday afternoon on the historic, one-mile paved oval.

Jeremy Miller Wins Big 8 Series feature at the Milwaukee Mile

For the second year in a row, Jeremy Miller took home the checkers in the “Badgerland 38."  Following a number of early incidents, a 50-minute time limit cut the scheduled 38 lap race to 33 laps. Regardless of the number of laps remaining, Miller controlled the tempo of the race and hit the line 1.537 seconds ahead of his nearest competition at the checkers.

Darlington Replaces Milwaukee on Truck Series Schedule

Darlington Raceway is hosting its first NASCAR truck race in six years.

Track president Chris Browning told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the Camping World Truck Series would run at the track "Too Tough To Tame" on Aug. 14. The track planned to release additional details later.

Browning said it would be a one-day event where teams would arrive, qualify and race that evening under Darlington's lights.

Nationwide Date Moves to Road America

According to several news reports this morning, NASCAR will move the June 19th Nationwide race that was originally scheduled to be held at the Milwaukee Mile to another historic Wisconsin racing venue.

For the first time since 1956, NASCAR will return to Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.  While this is certainly good news for race fans in Wisconsin, it is still sad to see the race date get moved away from the Milwaukee Mile.

NASCAR Statement on No Racing at Milwaukee Mile

"NASCAR had a signed sanction for our Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series races at The Milwaukee Mile.  However, we have learned that the promoter cannot meet the terms of their agreement." said NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston.

"NASCAR was aware of this possibility and we have been working on alternate opportunities on the 2010 schedule for both series and will announce those soon."

Milwaukee Mile won’t have a NASCAR race in 2010

It’s official: There will be no NASCAR race at The Milwaukee Mile in 2010.

After six months of negotiations with potential promoters for The Milwaukee Mile, the Wisconsin State Fair Park board of directors announced today that no agreements could be reached to bring a national race to the historic track in West Allis.

The board issued the following statement today:

“For the past seven years, the Wisconsin State Fair Park Board has been committed to maintaining and underwriting national racing at the historic Milwaukee Mile racetrack. Since 2003, the Fair Park has subsidized race operations from $1.0 million to $3.0 million each year. This money has come from revenue generated by visitors to the State Fair and other events held at the Park. The Fair Park has invested these substantial amounts in an effort to keep two national race weekends at The Mile. However, even the profitable NASCAR race weekend does not generate sufficient revenue to cover the costs of the other races as well as promoter operating expenses. It saddens us to say there will not be a national race held at The Milwaukee Mile for the 2010 season.

NASCAR says racing in Milwaukee still possible

Despite the latest setback in signing a new race promoter, racing at the Milwaukee Mile in 2010 remains a possibility, a NASCAR spokesman said Wednesday.

After a three-month process, Historic Mile LLC informed State Fair Park on Tuesday that it could not secure the financing necessary and would withdraw as the prospective promoter.

Almost immediately, park management turned its attention to a group led by Frank Giuffre, a former promoter, and his brother, Dominic. That group was rejected in August, when the park board of directors instead chose to sign a letter of intent with Historic Mile.

The racetrack is on the agenda of a fair board meeting Friday.

"We're in touch with the fair board, and Milwaukee is a very important market to us and we're considering every option available," said Ramsey Poston, managing director of corporate communications for NASCAR.

Poston refused to place a timeline on the decision-making process. Throughout its discussions with NASCAR, Historic Mile faced deadlines that were extended numerous times. NASCAR has scheduled Camping World Truck Series and Nationwide Series races for June 18-19.

Milwaukee Mile Gets 2010 NASCAR Dates

In a sign of positive progress, NASCAR has included the Milwaukee Mile on both the Camping World Truck Series and Nationwide Series schedules for 2010.  In an official release this week, NASCAR indicated that the Truck Series will return the Mile on June 18, while the Nationwide Series will return on June 19.
