Milwaukee IndyFest to return; date to be announced

The question of whether Milwaukee's IndyCar race will return in 2014 has been answered affirmatively, but the timing of when it will be held and the details of the Milwaukee IndyFest event will be revealed Oct. 16.

After this June's Milwaukee IndyFest, promoter Andretti Sports Marketing of Indianapolis said it wanted a return engagement but could not provide assurances. Andretti for the second year ran the event and targeted both open-wheel racing fans and folks who wanted to enjoy music, rides and concessions at the Milwaukee Mile on Father's Day weekend.

Attendance at this year's event was about flat with the first year in 2012, despite increased advertising. Also, sponsorships fell short of the Andretti organization's goals.

Now comes word that Andretti Sports Marketing has scheduled a press conference to announce plans on the future of Milwaukee IndyFest, a weekend festival of speed held on the Milwaukee Mile at Wisconsin State Fair Park.

Participating in the press conference will be Michael Andretti, chief executive officer of Andretti Sports Marketing; Kevin Healy, general manager of Milwaukee IndyFest; supporters of the event; and other officials.

One major question to be answered is whether the event will change dates to distance itself from Father's Day weekend.
