One of the reasons I let my wife talk me into moving to the Milwaukee area is this track, and getting to see a race every now and then.
March 11, 2012 | south amboy nj
The Milwaukee Mile is the oldest race track in America. It is a fantastic racing experience, as well as a great fan destination in Milwaukee. It deserves to not only be renovated, but also to land itself a Cup Series race, something I can't believe it never had once in all the years The Milwaukee Mile has been open.
March 08, 2012 | Milwaukee
The Milwaukee Mile is the best thing this city has to offer, it needs to stay.
March 08, 2012 | Browndeer
What a huge loss it would be to lose this event in Milwaukee. I have attended this race just about yearly since i was a young boy, over 40 years now. Its just as exciting to be at being 47. Dont cheat are youth of this fine sport and thank you Andretti's for taking a stand for Milwaukee.

Save the Mile!
March 01, 2012 | milwaukee
there is very few things that we call "heritage" left. Wisconsin has one of the most unique venues of its kind left in the world. Lets not modernize ourselves out of existence.
February 09, 2012 | West Allis
I'm born, raised and still reside near The Mile. I actually love the noise and the hustle and bustle it brings to the neighborhood. I grew up with it, so it brings back lots of good memories as a kid growing up in West Allis! I also love the history it holds. I would absolutely hate to see The Mile go. Save The Mile and bring back races!!

Make oval racing work in Wisconsin. Save the Mile!
February 07, 2012 | Carmel, IN
The Mile has to be my favorite oval in the world outside of my home track in Indianapolis. Not a cookie cutter, and it has tradition! Great races every time, and most importantly a Milwaukee icon. I wouldn't care about Milwaukee at all if not for the Mile! Please keep her!
February 07, 2012 | Milwaukee, WI
I had a lot of great times at the Milwaukee Mile and would hate to see it closed. Every effort needs to be made to ensure that major league racing continues at this historic track.
February 07, 2012 | Wisconsin
I'm a NASCAR guy and would really like to see stock cars back on the Mile, but at this point would gladly attend an IndyCar race if that helps the cause. Save the Mile!

It would be a tragedy of epic proportions to lose this venue to "modernization." Lawmakers: Think of history rather than the bottom line, for a change. Leave the Mile alone!

Someone needs to actually promote the Indycar race if they come back! You never hear or see anything about that race but yet you cant go 5 minutes on tv without hearing the word Nascar. I have been to atleast 35 Indycar races at the mile and think the race is almost always one of the best on the schedule. They really need Indycar at this track, its a great track and should be used!
February 07, 2012 | Chicago
I've been to several IndyCar races at the Mile and it is not only a great event for the fans but also one of the drivers' favorite tracks. The racing has always been highly entertaining and with the right promoter and a title sponsor, the Milwaukee IndyCar race can again be one of the most successful races in the series. It would be a terrible shame if the county and state do not continue to invest in the Mile and support one of the oldest races in American motor sports history.
February 06, 2012 | Waterford, WI
Keep Milwaukee Mile going. We can get this track back to full capcity through promoting it. It wont happen over night but within 3 yrs we could have this track back in the circuit. We can have Nascar and Indy in here and give Milwaukee County and West Allis a good tourist income by having this track an active track. Its all boils down to word of mouth and promoting it outside of Wisconsin as well. Promote the track at every other race and that will get people outside of Milwaukee on board as well. This would be one of the best things that the politians could keep. Its historical, money gold mine and something that doesnt required a lot of changes and up keep to keep it going. There is a lot that can go into this to continue to generate a steady flow of income year after year. But it depends on promoting it. Get out of Wisconsin and promote the Milwaukee Mile at the other races. If people dont know its there they wont come. Have something that stands out at each race that will stay with the fans that came so it will also remain in the minds of people who do attend.
February 06, 2012 | Wausau, WI
I've been to the last 2 Indycar races, and if they decide to come back I'll be one of the biggest promoters!
February 06, 2012 | Minneapolis, MN
We attended our very first Indycar race at the Mile last year and hope it is not the first AND the last! We loved watching the race and just wished there was a little more excitement around the event and better attendance. I don't think the people of Milwaukee know what a gem they have there. Let's help them realize it!
February 06, 2012 | Hales Corners, WI
The loyal racing fan base of southeastern WI deserves an active racing facility like this. Someone with money who KNOWS something about the racing business needs to be found to run the Mile. Then the Fair Park board needs to step back and give them a chance to make it work.

February 05, 2012 | Madison, WI
This track is part of racing history. It should be preserved like a museum not closed like a prison!
February 03, 2012 | Brodhead, WI 53520
We have been to many great races at the milwaukee mile over the years. It is important to the history of Wisconsin and a great way to promote our fine state. Two winston cup champions, Alan Kulwicki and Matt Kenseth have started their racing in Wisconsin. It would be a tragedy to close the Milwaukee mile race track.
February 02, 2012 | Cary,IL
Had the best times at Milwaukee Mile watching Indycar, NasCar,and Champ series racing. We really need to get all these races back to Milwaukee.
February 01, 2012 | Milwaukee

how is it that after million dollars plus in new grandstands and safer barriers we allow the racetrack to die?? i do not think we need a rocket scientist to promote races at this track. we need a passionate person who really cares about premiere racing at the countries oldest racetrack. why not let a group of fans take over the track and see what happens. we certainly couldn't do any worse.

With Indy Car announcing 1/13/12 they want to come back to the Mile in 2012 if the Fair Board doesn't work hard to help pull this off then it is time for a new Fair Board. With 100+ years of racing at the Mile, it would be a crime to let this opportunity slip way.

Why can't Miller Brewing be the title sponsor of the Mile like it used to. A few years back, my friends and I were shocked that the alcohol vendor at the track was Budweiser. State Fair Park made a huge mistake on that one. The mile needs to be back on the Indycar calendar the week after the Indy 500 with Miller Brewing as the title sponsor and beverage concessionaire.Period. Indycar fans haven't left Wisconsin, they just like their tradition. In the words of Paul Newman in the movie winning "Everybody goes to Milwaukee after Indy"..........

A great track with such history in Wisconsin should not die. We need to get serious about promoting this gem, and host a sprint cup event. There is no reason a race here shouldn't be as big as Bristol. Lets bring back weekly local racing here.

I've been coming to races at the Mile for over 50 years; it was hard and sad to see it empty last season. I hope race fans will come out in large numbers to this year's race to show their support so that racing can continue at the track.
June 09, 2011 | Milwaukee, Wi.
I would hate to see a legendary track like the milwaukee mile vanish because of B.S. I have many memories of coming to the track with my dad and watching drivers like Dick Trickle, Mike Eddy, Bobby Allison, Alan Kulwicki, The Unsers, Rick Mears and so many others.

When you think of the names who have raced there,
Pettys,Mears,Earnharts,..... WOW! What a terrible
loss for us if we lose this grand ol track. I have

BRING PREMIER RACING BACK!!
December 13, 2010 | Naples, Fl
I attended my first race there in the late 40s. I also saw the Packers play there. I saw Jim Hurtibise flame, Les Snow driving with his arm out the window and Frank Burany. Bill Shoulders, Jim Rathman, Marshall Teague and Norm Nelson. Jim Clark with his left front 10 inches off the ground. Tony Bettenhausen was my favorite. Quarter miler Fuzzy Fasbender. I saw Ed Elisian die in front of me on the south turn. The fire scorched my skin. Last year while visiting Milwaukee I walked the track, it was desolate. So glad they're running there again. I will try to make the race.
September 20, 2010 | Illinois
I have watched so many great races take place at this legendary track. I don't want to loose the place where so many of my heroes raced. I'd love for it to be around for my kids and grand children to enjoy.

Please bring the IRL and Nascar back to America's oldest oval!! My dad and I have been going to races at The Mile since I was 7 years old. This summer it broke my heart to see the track empty. Lots of great racing happened here, and I hope to see many more years of it at The Mile.
September 02, 2010 | Indianapolis
IndyCar racing should return to The Milwaukee Mile--it would be a great benefit for the community, fans, as well as for the sport.

It would be great to see the facility continue to open up to hold events like the Govoners Cup and ASA Late Model races. Bring back the USAC Midgets and Sprint Cars. Six or eight events with the above type cars would be better than once a year having nascar there.

I love the Milwaukee mile,I wacth open wheel racing car, and stock cars on the milwaukee mile for over 15 years, and i in my 12 year of highshcool, but, I 'm real that the milwaukee mile is my fovrite short track on plant earth, And even got plan for my race seris, which I'm really, wirting rules for my racing seris to have a even plantforom of four class, from lowspeed-low-tech cars to, high-speed high-tech expensive cars. And my vision and guts say this milwaukee mile steal have life in it, and i well host an racing event in the milwaukee mile; know as the Milwaukee mile 3000mile race that start in daylight and end at night time. That my plan for the milwaukee mile, and save the milwaukee mile.

May 28, 2010 | Hartland
Have only been in Wisconsin for six years, but have gone to races here every year, prior to this mess. Prior to moving here, lived twenty minutes from Dover Speedway. Seems very sad and strange, that someone can't be found to run this historic track in a fashion that can turn a profit and draw national race series events. Maybe there's a lack of general public racing interest in this area? Seems like politics intervention in private ventures is not a good thing? Got my fingers crossed, and ready to buy tickets when events return.
May 21, 2010 | Milwaukee, Wi
The first race I attended at The Mile was the Tony Bettenhausen 200 in 1970. I have been an indy car fan ever since. Watching these cars through the 1970's inspired me to take the Skip Barber Racing School course and pursue a career with them. I attended all the IRL/IndyCar Series races at the mile and I am sad that we have no major league racing for the foreseeable future.
March 10, 2010 | PatchGroveWi.
For 50 years Ive been going to this track. What ashame to be going down this road. This racetrack is not a blackhole for the communties that surround it. maybe the politicians should just move over and let some who truly knows how to turn a profit manage this track

The Milwaukee Mile is a time honored tradition. Losing itg would not only be a magor loss for racing but also for the city of Milwaukee and the entire state of Wisconsin.

Last year, I attended my first race at the Mile: the IndyCar ABC Supply/A.J Foyt 225. I had the time of my life, and told my Mother "I cant wait till next year!" then I saw there will be no next year, and my heart simply sank. SAVE THE MILWAUKEE MILE!
February 18, 2010 | Algoquin,Illinois
It would be a shame to let such an historic place go by the wayside. I've enjoyed going to races there in the past, and I've been willing to travel interstate to be there.
February 13, 2010 | Sheboygan WI
How can closing the track even be an option? Some of the most memorable moments of my life have been at that track. Why dont the track officials meet with representatives from Nacar & Indy Car as well as the rest of the Racing Organizations and find out what it would to to make the operation of this track viable and gain some commitment from the motorsports agencies? The days of "Build it and they will come" are over....
February 10, 2010 | Kenosha, WI
Holy Cow this track has alot of history. If saving the Pabts brewery from demolition was important, I would imagine that keeping America's oldest raceway running should carry some clout. Get it out of the hands of the DNR.

My grandfather took my father and my father took me. Its upsetting that I may have to stop taking my son.
December 22, 2009 | Racine
The loss of The Milwaukee Mile would be a devistating loss for the entire racing community. The history alone should be enough to keep it running at any cost. Do you think Indy or Daytona would shut down if profits were down? NO! They would get a board who KNOWS THE RACING BUISSNESS AND PROMOTE THE DAMN THING AND MAKE A PROFIT! Susan Crane and the Mile Board are just puppets of Gov. Doyle. The potetial is there just stop changing contracts when the deal is already made!
December 22, 2009 | Grayslake, IL
One must wonder about the true intentions of the Wisconsin State Fair Board. What better way to justify the closing of the track than have political appointees with no race promotion experience controlling the fate of the track. Let's hope the governor wakes up and smells the beer no longer brewed in Milwaukee before the Mile is nothing but another racing memory.

Save the Racing History in WI.
December 20, 2009 | Milwaukee WI
Been going to the mile for years! My dad would take me to qualifying when I was younger (Saw Mears get the pole, saw Rahal break 92 record, Bosel 95 record), went to first race in 96, and since then have been going to every indycar (Cart also) race. Occassionally a Nationwide race, and even the monster truck event about 5 years back.
I refuse to see this track die, and think it should be sold to private investors and away from the Fair Park board.
Too much history and great racing still left in it.

I have been to the mile every year since like 1992 when they started racing BGN cars there, for indy cars, arca cars, BGN and Truck series races. I now have a 3 year old that loves racecars and I want to be able to take him to the races as my father took me. DONT CLOSE THE MILE!!!
December 18, 2009 | Southern California
The historical significance of the Mile cannot be overstated. The venue can, and should, be kept open whatever the costs. Having been in business for more than 30 years, I can say without equivocation that the economic impact in the area from national sanctioning groups is significant.
Politics over policy is a natural result of political appointments. Members of the Board should be selected on their ability to make things prosper! NOT as a POWER GRAB!!!

It's a shame seeing the Milwaukee Mile just sit there. We need to keep the track open and not lose all the history involved with the track.
